Biography

Biographical Statement

Excellence in nutrition programming for low-income audiences is the focus of my work. Supporting county extension staff to deliver a premier, innovative, nationally recognized program for EFNEP and SNAP-Ed participants is a primary goal.

Benchmarks to achieve this goal include: execution of an innovative training scheme for professional and paraprofessional staff,  implementation of a quality assurance process which includes all levels of program staff in onsite reviews with technical assistance and training, and ongoing review of policies and procedures.

Development of management capacity of the nutrition leaders of these programs will serve the system well into the future. Long-term objectives include development of nutrition programming in the areas of maternal and child health, breastfeeding, diabetes, and childhood obestity prevention. The capacity of county extension staff to touch and influence the health and well being of mothers and young children has not been fully explored. The needs of low-income mothers and families have not been fully addressed. Both EFNEP and SNAP-Ed programs have great potential for addressing the critical nutrition needs and improving the lives of the target population.

Administrative Responsibilities
As State EFNEP Coordinator I am responsible for contract management of EFNEP funds. This includes monitoring county performance and use of resources. An annual budget recommendation for campus and county funding is prepared in consultation with FNEC staff and extension administration. The EFNEP budget request, Letter of Intent and annual report is prepared and sent to the national office.

In addition communication between the unit, college, division, and cooperative extension administration; and communication between our unit and external partners is a major resposibility.

I supervise three campus staff: an Administrative Assistant and two Extension Associates.
