After several attempts at making art in more established media (installation, conceptual, site-specific, and video) proved unsatisfactory, the notion of establishing an institutional lens as a perspectival art medium resolved itself in my mind. Forming, growing, and evolving the Center for Land Use Interpretation, the entity that arose as a result, has been my work since 1994. Now a "real" institution, with a (small) staff, offices, and projects that have been completed with museums and other cultural venues across the United States and Europe, the Center continues to operate according to its mission - to increase and diffuse information about how the nation's lands are apportioned, utilized, and perceived - and to expand its reach further into the cultural realm.
