Since 1983, I have been involved in the creation of public installations that seek to expand audience participation and creativity. For over two decades, I have described what I do as "experience design," and more recently, borrowing from Joseph Beuys, as "social sculpting." I have worked primarily in the areas of social media and particularly "spatial media," work that focuses on navigation and physical space as a metaphor, as well as a container for narrative and social interaction. I have worked on the design of both physical and virtual spaces under the auspices of game design, attractions design and media art. I consider myself a designer first and foremost, but also work as a writer, teacher and lecturer.
