A spaying dilemma: laparoscopic ovariectomy as an alternative to a traditional ovariohysterectomy

Other Titles

Abstract

This paper will provide an overview of the potential benefits of performing an ovariectomy (OVE) as an alternative to the traditional ovariohysterectomy (OVH) in dogs. The advantages of reduced surgical time, smaller incision, and less overall intra-operative trauma will be discussed, as well the likelihood of long term complications arising from leaving the uterus behind. The pros and cons of performing this surgery laparoscopically will also be addressed.
