| Abstract: | Memorial Statement for Professor Frederick Bruce Hutt, M.A., Ph.D., D.Sc. (1897-1991) who was Chairman (1934) of the Department of Poultry Husbandry in the College of Agriculture and Chairman (1939-1944) of the Department of Zoology in the College of Arts and Sciences. "Professor Hutt's teaching at Cornell began with a course in Poultry Genetics that continued for about 30 years" and wrote a classic work, "Genetics of Fowl", which soon became the 'bible' for all those interested in poultry genetics and poultry breeding. After returning to the Poultry Department in 1955, he taught a basic "course in genetics especially designed for veterinary students" related to animal traits at the College of Veterinary Medicine for 20 years. He also authored several texts, including " Animal Genetics" (1964), "Genetic Resistance to Disease in Domestic Animals" (1958), and "Genetics for Dog Breeders" (1979). The memorial statements contained herein were prepared by the Office of the Dean of the University Faculty of Cornell University to honor its faculty for their service to the university. |
