Zweig Memorial Fund News Capsule (1988-present)

Permanent URI for this collection

The Harry M. Zweig Memorial Fund for Equine Research was established in 1979 by the New York State Legislature to promote equine health with regard to the racing industry. It is administered at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine by an advisory committee composed of representatives from State agencies and the equine industry.

Dr. Harry M. Zweig (1914-1977), a Nassau, New York, veterinarian, was “an instrumental figure in the passing of the Laverne Law in 1965 which provided the Foundation for the New York Sires Stakes program.” He is also credited with single-handedly reviving harness racing in New York in the mid-1960s.

ZMF: Zweig Memorial Fund News Capsule (1988-1991), Zweig Memorial Fund News Capsule (1991-2008) and Zweig News Capsule (2009- to present) continue to be issued semi-annually to report news about research projects and other timely information related to this Fund and its activities.
