| Abstract: | A neonatal Brown Swiss heifer calf presented for diarrhea and failure of passive transfer. Culture results revealed Escherichia coli from both the blood and the feces. Sensitivity results showed that all strains were highly resistant to antibiotics; as a result the calf was placed on amikacin. After several days of treatment the calf developed neurologic signs which progressed to seizures. Post-mortem exam revealed severe meningitis with a thalamic infarct. |
