AQUAVET® (1996-present)

Permanent URI for this collection

Begun in 1977, the AQUAVET® Program is co-sponsored by the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. Initially presented in collaboration with three marine science institutions at Woods Hole, Massachusetts, an association with Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island was begun in 2011.

Its purpose is to “identify and bring together persons and institutions sharing the belief that the veterinary profession is in a position to contribute to the well-being of the aquatic environment and its inhabitants.” Veterinary students are offered two 4-week intensive, hands-on summer courses in aquatic animal medicine and comparative pathology which were held at the Marine Biological Laboratory (BML) from 1977 to 2009 “to identify, stimulate, and encourage as many potential leaders of this emerging branch of veterinary medicine as possible.”

This collection contains publications related to this program since its inception. More information about the AQUAVET® Program can be found at http://www.vet.cornell.edu/aquavet/
