| Citation: | - African American photograph collection - Summary: Collection of 19th century historical photographs on various subjects demonstrating the technological evolution of photography from 1822 - 1885. The collection contains Daguerreotypes, salted paper photographs, ambrotypes, tintypes, albumen prints, cartes de visite, cabinet cards, and photograph albums. Also included are some lithographic prints (some hand colored), a graphite on paper portrait, wood engraving, medals, and stamp. - Notes: In English and French. - RMC A&S grant for rehousing/Loewentheil African American Collection - 1 of 27 hand-colored portraits total, of which 10 were brought to Conservation for treatment on 10/17/12 by Anne Carson - Individual description as follows: Man in black ovetcoat, gray cap, full-length, black and gray tones, background painted to look like smoke or fog.
