Colormap: A Color Image Quantizer

Abstract

This paper is a preliminary report on color image quantization and the background, design and implementation of the colormap program. The purpose of colormap is to quantize 24-bit per pixel color images down to only 8 or 9 bits per pixel with minimal perceived image degradation.
