For the past twenty years I have created a diverse body of media art works. My single channel video works have examined different modes of representation reflected in our society: these areas include body politics; questions around gender and sexual identity and sexual orientation; the position of the patient/consumer in relationship to medicine and bioscience/biotechnology; and finally issues of nature versus culture. I have been very interested in pushing the boundaries of non-fiction cinematic form, and to challenge definitions of "reality" and the ideas of fact and fiction in this postmodern, postcolonial moment. Issues of power are examined in many of my works, as well as who is given a voice with which to speak. Often I will turn the camera over to someone else (or an animal). I have studied American culture with an anthropologist's eye to trends and models that shape behavior and create stereotypes.
